AE Works is seeking a talented Director of Mechanical Engineering to join our team. This position is based out of our Arlington, VA. office with occassional travel to project/client sites and other firm office locations. Role and Responsibilities for Position:

  • Lead the mechanical engineering team for AE Works
  • Collaborate with the operations, sales and marketing teams to represent the engineering capabilities of AE Works in project pursuits, interviews, and business development
  • Research and gather information on potential clients, project opportunities, and trends in market sectors including healthcare, science and technology, higher education, commercial and/or government projects
  • Work directly with senior management to develop major business initiatives around engineering and other firm services
  • Prepare fee proposals, qualifications packages, presentations, and other related activities for potential opportunities
  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback on market trends. Participation in speaking and presenting to demonstrate expertise is preferred
  • Lead clients and internal design team, including architects and engineers, though the planning and design for the mechanical systems for building projects, both new construction and renovation
  • Champion engineering design excellence within the firm thru mentorship and training
  • Coordinate mechanical engineering services and staffing assignments with project team leads
  • Ensure the mechanical engineering team is producing high quality deliverables for clients at all stages of design
  • Serve as a primary contact with client and consultants for engineering services
  • Travel with team members for onsite collaboration, investigations, and project presentations
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policies
  • Perform other duties as needed

 Our top applicants will possess the following technical background:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • PE registration in VA, MD, DC, PA or other reciprocal state
  • 10+ years of manager or leadership experience in an Architectural Engineering or MEP firm environment
  • Experience in design of healthcare, senior care, higher education, commercial, public safety, and/or government projects, with specialization in a specific area of design required
  • Sales experience preferred including the creation of proposals and participation in interviews for business development
  • 5+ years of client relationship building and principal level engagement
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our culture is a must
  • Skilled with using cloud based and mobile technology for collaboration
